Leelanau Day Trips will be coming soon to STONEBANX Vacation Rental in Leelanau, Michigan. Doug and Michelle Hart are your hosts for a favorite vacation getaway on the shore of Lake Michigan in Leelanau County. They are currently vacationing on the east coast. The Hart family spent a fun, albeit rainy, day with me (Maine Day Trip) experiencing the New England charm of Portland, Kennebunkport, and York. The lobster bisque at Federal Jacks in Kennebunkport was one of the highlights of the day. But maybe the 1700 pound chocolate moose at the Len Libby Candy store took the 'cake'. If you are going to be in picturesque Northern Michigan be sure and stay at STONEBANX and take the Day Trip. The Hart's are great people and you will not be disappointed.

With a history dating back to 1828, Sweetser has evolved into Maine's most comprehensive mental health organization for children, adults and families. The annual 'Sold on Kids' benefit auction is Saturday, April 5, at the Marriott Sable Oaks in South Portland. Many items have been donated by local businesses including Maine Day Trip.
The eagles are nesting for the first time today. Here is their web cam: http://www.briloon.org/watching-wildlife/
Maine's BioDiversity Research Institute provides a great eagle nest webcam. I have been watching this eagles nest for the last few years and every year it is a new drama. Unfortunately, last year there was a huge April storm that caused the Eagles to abandon the nest. It looks like the eagles will be laying eggs very soon this year. Check on them often and follow their BLOG for a great introduction into Maine's natural resources. Maine is 90% forested which is a higher rate than any other state.
Today is Maine Maple Sunday and Easter. The sun is bright and the weather is great for hunting Easter eggs (in the snow banks) and visiting sugar houses around the state. It takes 40 gallons for maple sap to create one gallon of syrup. See how it is done at your favorite sugarhouse that is open and enjoy the day.
The Maine Cancer Community Center online auction ends March 27, 2008 at 3 P.M. Maine Day Trip has donated a day trip in the 'Get Out/Get Active' category. 654 items have been donated so far. I am sure that you can find something that you would like to bid on and help a great charity as well.
Today is the annual Member Appreciation Day for the Portland Regional Chamber of Commerce. Over 1,500 membership directories (with goodies) were hand delivered to each business representative at their offices. I volunteered to deliver 10 of the packages to businesses in South Portland. It was an enjoyable experience and I have made new contacts on behalf of Maine Day Trip. There was a lot of time, energy, and enthusiasm put into this effort by the many business volunteers.
