Thank you for making our time so memorable!

My husband and I had a fabulous time with Pam yesterday.  She was engaged and knowledgeable and we really appreciated her recommendation for lunch. She joined us to eat at Barnacle Billy’s and we enjoyed her company. She was a great guide and we are so happy we spent the day with her. We would recommend her and your company to anyone we know is traveling to Maine!  Thank you for making our time so memorable!!

We had a wonderful time visiting Camden, Mt. Battie and the Farnsworth Museum.

We recently took our second guided tour with Maine Day Trip Tours. Norm was our tour guide extraordinaire. He picked us up right on time in Portland and drove us to Camden. Norm pointed out the wonderful scenic spots and joined us for a delightful lunch. One of the highlights of our trip was visiting Mt. Battie where at every turn there are breathtaking views. On our way back to Portland, we toured the Farnsworth Museum with Norm. He provided us with insightful commentary about the paintings, especially the Andrew Wyeth masterpieces. If you are looking for the best and friendliest guide in Maine, ask for Norm at Maine Day Trip Tours.

I’m so glad we booked a tour!

We really enjoyed our tour of southern Maine. Don was terrific! He was so knowledgeable about the area and my daughters really enjoyed it. He was so friendly and engaged them in the tour. His recommendations were great, especially with lunch in Kennebunk. I know for sure we would have seen much less had we not booked the tour. I feel like we know so much more about the state and the Portland area now. I’m so glad we booked a tour!

Rock Hounding in Maine

Two Lights State ParkAre you a rock hound?  If so, Maine is the place to visit.  The rocky coast of Maine is 3,500 miles long if you walk it.  But you do not have to go far from Portland to see and touch it.  This picture of Two Lights State Park shows you a sliver of what you can experience first-hand. Climb onto these metamorphic ledges to examine the faults and joints of 200 million years ago.

These rocks were beginning 420 million years ago with a lot of heat and pressure.  Today they look similar to petrified wood due to the wood grain appearance.  There is no petrified wood here!  Today’s view is basically the same as 14,000 years ago when the continental glaciation started receding.

Plan your visit to include the Maine Mineral & Gem Museum located in Bethel, Maine.  See beautiful Maine tourmaline gems and the meteorite gallery.  The world’s largest collection of lunar and Mars meteorites are also here along with pieces of the moon!

Best Lighthouse Tour

I was in Portland and Bar Harbor, Maine for five days for my birthday and the goal was to see at least 12 lighthouses with an ultimate goal of seeing all fifty states in the next few years. I actually saw 19 lighthouses and each guide was knowledgeable, friendly, prompt and good drivers.

Being a private tour, it was more expensive than a group tour and worth every dollar. As a bonus I also saw the Portland Freedom Trail, Kennebunk and a host of other sites including a prison store, Stonewall Company and alpacas which we don’t have in CA 🙂

I am vegetarian and one of the guides, Leigh, did research to make sure my food needs were met which was great and so caring and she had a great sense of ease about her.

The company provided information on hotels before I booked my trip. Don even took me to the airport at the end of the tour and he had a wonderful sense of humor. They had books and maps and the owner Norm provided bonus gifts that are very special and remind me of the great trip each time I look at them.

Each day was special and I had an absolutely wonderful time on this tour. If or when I go back to Maine I would definitely use this company again! Thank you Leigh, Don and Norm.

Absolutely Spectacular Customized Photography Tour

When Norm heard that we wanted a photography tour, he did not disappoint. From moment one he had planned out an itinerary of bucolic and iconic Maine sites. From the famous Portland Head Lighthouse to off the beaten path locations that no tourist ever attended, he found spots to take gorgeous photos and videos.

Although the weather on the day we visited was overcast, Norm even planned for those weather contingencies and had multiple locations ready for us to film from. He helped to structure the tour so that lighting was best for the specific shot. Prior to our tour, Norm had also location scouted a variety of different locations so that he could recommend specific spots from which to film rather than us wasting time looking for a spot to shoot from.

Norm was also extremely hospitable and friendly and epitomized Maine hospitality.

Norm and his company have the flexibility to cater the tour to your exact specifications: You want local only food places for foodies; you want a tour in Cantonese or Portuguese; You want a tour of all lighthouses — nothing was a problem.

Norm also took us to a local restaurant that had some of the best clam chowder in the east coast, and the absolute best lemon mascarpone cheesecake that I have ever tasted in my life.

Thank you Norm. We would never do Maine without first booking a tour with you.

Excellent Experience, Will Do It Again!

Every time I travel to a new place I schedule a private tour so that I can get an “inside” look at my new destination. The day that we spent with Leigh was one of the best experiences ever.

We have had private tours from coast to coast and Leigh is absolutely one of the most welcoming, thoughtful and insight guides ever. Actually she isn’t just a guide, we feel like we made a friend in Leigh. There were three of us ladies and all of us on our first trip to New England. When Leigh picked us up at our hotel we first plotted out what we wanted to experience.

Leigh took us in her minivan around Portland and shared history and plans the city has for future growth. We wanted to do a little shipping so we headed out to LL Bean and the surrounding shops. We were headed to Cape Elizabeth but we wanted hot chocolate and tea so Leigh was nice enough to take us to a lovely café that is in her town. Everything was yummy and the perfect place to grab a warm drink.

We then headed to Cape Elizabeth and toured a few light houses and then grabbed a lobster roll and the best strawberry rhubarb pie at The Lobster Shack. We made additional stops here and there and even left with recommendation on additional stops since we were leaving for Boston right after the tour.

On Leigh’s recommendation we stopped in Kennebunkport and we fell in love with Dannah’s on Ocean Avenue not to mention the amazing views off look out point. We also enjoyed Leigh’s recommendations in Ogunquit as we enjoyed our walk along the Marginal Way and the shops at the end of our walk.

We would not have had these experiences and found these gems if it weren’t for Leigh. Thank you!! we will be back!!
